Spud Sunday: Potato Dipping

My garden is full of surprises.

One day last month, when I was moved to do a bit of tidying up outside, I found this:

Romanesco Cauliflower

That's one funny lookin' Christmas tree...

Having long ago resigned myself to the fact that the romanesco cauliflower I had planted earlier this year had come to naught, there it was, a single specimen, presenting its wonderfully fractal head for inspection. At times like these, you really have to hand it to Mother Nature.

What Not To Eat

So, what if you were advised (as someone I know was recently) that, for a period of time at least, you needed to go on a diet which, for reasons of digestive health, involved avoiding all of the following:

  • gluten
  • dairy products
  • red meat
  • raw vegetables
  • cruciferous vegetables (such as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, cooked or raw)
  • fruits with high acid content
  • peanuts (raw or in butters)
  • pulses in anything other than very small amounts

(Brief pause for exclamation of your choice here.)
