There it was. Nag, nag, nagging me over the last few days.
The gnarly question of just how to follow up the excitement of this week’s triumphant Paddy’s Day Food Parade? A tricky one, methought. Something special was required.
Happily, as it turns out, there was something extra special coming my way…
On Friday evening, the finalists were announced for this year’s Irish Blog Awards, and this here Spud was very proud to be found occupying a spot on the list in the Food and Drink category, which is once again sponsored by An Bord Bia. It was an absolute privilege and thrill to win in this category last year and I am honoured to be amongst such excellent company on the finalists list again this time ’round. And trust me, my fellow finalists – Ice Cream Ireland, The Beer Nut, The Grapes Of Sloth and The Good Mood Food Blog – are worthy of your attention, every one.
The awards will be announced next Saturday at the annual Irish Blogs Hooley in Galway and, whether I get to keep my crown or not, I reckon that I should, at the very least, tart myself up for the occasion. While it’s probably fair to assume that the judges will not be swayed by good looks – and, let’s face it, I clearly have an unfair advantage over my fellow finalists in the general good looks department – it surely won’t do any harm to cut a dash at the awards do.
Question is, do you think it suits me? I must admit that I’m particularly fond of the jaunty red handbag myself and – because this might well be the only thank-you speech I get to make – I would particularly like to thank my stylists Tim, Brian and Aoife for their good taste in kitting me out. If nothing else, I think that I’ll have the award for Best Dressed Spud all sewn up.
The purse suits you just fine. That’s fantastic news. Congrats!!!!! Woohoo… I’ll pop open a Guinness just for that. :)
see you there…I look like a waiter just in case you are wondering…sullen eyes, stoop, bitter….heh
Congratulations! I have no doubt that you will take home the trophy once again. The ensemble looks lovely but I think a sparkly Spud is in order – perhaps a glittery bracelet?
jenn: thanks and enjoy that Guinness :)
manuel: excellent, my good man, I’ll make sure to order something awkward off the menu and forget to leave you a tip :D
Tangled Noodle: oh my gosh, you’re right TN, I need me some sparkles – duly noted!
Congratulations, daily Spud!! Hup Hup to Galway!!!
I hope you win because I love your humor, lovely recipes & lovely pics!
Looking like a hot potato there! I agree with TN though- more bling and you have the full rig-out
Personally, I’m most fond of your emerald green earrings. ;)
HUGE Congrats, Spud, on your well-deserved recognition! I’m wishing you both good looks and good luck!!!
I love it! I think it should be your Avatar on Twitter and such! At least you have outfit options out there, maybe a contest for the best dressed spud is in order, on both ends of that spectrum!
And as said by others Congrats are in order!
Who could resist those gorgeous baby blues! Congrats on the nomination – I hope you win :)
Love the outfit..Congrats!!!!!
sweetlife
Good luck in the awards, I’m sure you’ll be spud-tastic.
Sophie: thanks, I hope so too :)
Yvette: yes, I’m getting the bling message alright!
Diva: Thank you! The emerald green earrings are quite eye-catching (quite ear-catching too, truth be told :D)
Chef E: yes, I think I will need to expand my wardrobe in due course – that best dressed spud prize has got to me mine, lol
Phyllis: well, if I do say so myself, my potato eyes are probably my best feature :D
sweetlife: glad you like it :)
Sarah: thank you, I hope I will!
Congrats and good luck in the final selection!
It’s yours! You’re going to WIN!
Congratulations – I’m rooting for you. I think you look glam! I love the bright red bag – it screams happy thoughts especially coupled with the yellow shoes and green hat. Best of luck and we look forward to hearing of your success next week! We know what a special blog this is!
youve got the beating of them hands down with such a glam look
Oh I had to come back to take a gander at Ms Spudsy! I missed that photo saying Galway- remember my 20 minutes across to Dublin behind a Cadbury truck, and not to mention a hot Irishman, phew! Maybe I just had a hot flash over that thought! I loved it when we made the guys say ‘thirty’…say it and listen to yurseif!
Could America have a tator famine so I can come home :)
5 Star Foodie: thank you!
Duo Dishes: I like how you’re thinkin’ there :)
OysterCulture: I’m just so colour co-ordinated, I can’t help it :D And I will, of course, report back from Galway – I hope the news will be good!
dave: don’t I just – that red handbag is my sure fire secret weapon :D
Chef E: I remember that story – you just need to come back over here, tater famine or no :)

The beer goes without saying for tomorrow night :)
Thanks Aoife & you’re right – I think I’d wow the lot of them with that outfit tomorrow – and sure where would I be going without my lucky red handbag!
