The Daily Spud

...there's both eatin' and drinkin' in it

One Potato, Two Potatoes, …

Number two

Can you believe that I almost forgot my own birthday?

Yes indeedy. I very nearly missed the fact that The Daily Spud turns two today. Shocking, huh? I just give thanks for readers who are there to remind me of such important facts!

In my defence, I will say that I was somewhat distracted by the exertions involved in last weekend’s dinner party for Project Food Blog. (Hint: if you want to make this girl feel good on her birthday, you can send a vote her way if you should feel so inclined).

As for me, I sometimes get overwhelmed by all that has come my way via the Spud channel over the past two years. Hell, I’ve even made the Irish tabloids with a write up in the Sunday World the other week. I never for a minute thought that would happen.

So there is definitely reason to celebrate. And today, I could think of no better way to do that than with an honest-to-goodness, straight up, Irish apple tart, made on an enamel plate as my Ma would do. I might even have a nice cup of tea to go with it.

Happy appley birthday to me!

Thank you all – you’re all very much part of the Spud experience, I wouldn’t be here without yis! (Actually, maybe I would, but it wouldn’t be half as much fun :) )

You’re a star Lisa. You *deserve* some apple tart!

  9. That is the best, DS!! Happy, Happy Birthday to you! And guess what, I think my 2nd birthday is in just a couple of weeks. Perhaps I shall have some Irish apple tart, as well:)

It has been an excellent two years–here’s to many more for you!!!

  10. Happy, happy Birthday, dear Spud! Congrats on your 2nd year and looking forward to sharing your 3rd!

The tart looks scrumptious and now I’m off to vote for you in PFB. Good luck!!

  11. howdy and happy b-day!
Is that 2 in people years or potato years.
Our little one told me she heard a rumour that you could survive strictly on potatoes and that some people (Irish or Peruvians, I imagine) have done it for ages. Well, I’ll let her know that you can make it for at least 2 years and still keep up enough energy to run a successful blog.

  12. Congrats on your tabloid feature! you’re right up there with Paris Hilton now! And, more poignantly, congrats on two years. That’s AWESOME!

I voted for you over at foodbuzz! Keep up the good work!

  13. Jenni: Oh do have some Irish apple tart for your second birthday but maybe you should make some pound cake as well and send me some :D

Diva: thank you dearest, looking forward to having you around!

pierre: A pleasure to welcome you here Monsieur! You raise a very interesting question there and I think that the answer can only be 2 in potato years. And yes, your little one is quite right, you can survive on potatoes alone (well, potatoes and milk, really) – I’m going to see how long I can keep it up for :)

Joanne: thanks! sure the paparazzi will be following me next, lol

  14. Happy Bday Spud!!! And a well deserved tabloid mention. You deserve it.

  15. Only 2 years old, and already a sensation. How much further you’ll go in another 2 years, I can’t even imagine. Congrats and happy blogoversary! :D
